Did You Know?

Animal abuse, a very sad topic, but one that needs to be given attention.

Did you know animal abuse isn’t just someone hitting or hurting their own pet?

Did you know animals are being abused daily and we are allowing it?

On the packaging of items that are organic, such as cheese, it says “Pasture Raised Cows.” There are WAY less organic products available than non-organic products. So what is happening to the other cows?

What is happening is they are being “kept” in a factory farm. I’ve seen footage of piglets being thrown from one person to another and then slammed to the ground, men kicking chickens who have no place to run away to, and injured cows being pushed around with a tractor. I’ve read how calves are ripped away from their mother at dairy farms and people who live nearby can hear the calves crying all night. I have also heard that most of these animals never see the light of day. Their physical & psychological needs are far from being met. These animals are terrified and basically living their entire life in distress.

Most of us have no idea about these things or have an idea but push it out of our mind. We go to the store and purchase what we need, go home, make a meal out of it, and then eat it. I am a vegetarian, but lately when I am eating ice cream, cheese, or drinking milk, and even my favorite Chai Latte, I no longer enjoy it because I am thinking about what the cows had to endure for me to have this. This is why I am now buying organic.

Farm animals are one example of animal abuse that is being allowed. There are also animals used in entertainment such as elephants in circuses and at festivals. There is so much evidence that the only way an elephant does tricks is because it was beaten into submission. We allow this to happen when we buy tickets and attend these events.

There is so much beauty in this world, but there is also so much ugliness.

Are you staying with me and still reading? I hope so. Because you do not have to be an animal advocate to care about this or to speak up for the animals. This is everybody’s job and responsibility to do something. God has given us the position as shepherds over his animals. They are not “just animals.” They are God’s. How do you think he thinks we are doing at this job?

Did you know YOU can make a difference? You can by only purchasing cruelty-free products, not attending events that use animals as entertainment, and writing letters or signing petitions for stronger laws protecting animals.

I am doing alright. How about you? Can you get those in any grocery store? Also, I am having a hard time figuring out what to use as a substitute for milk in things you cook. Almond, soy, coconut milk are all so sweet. What do you use for those types of things?

Depends where you are in the world and how much attention you pay to where exactly produce comes from. I live in the middle of three farms including one huge dairy farm where the cows are treated with more care and kindness many kids aren’t lucky enough to have.

That’s where we get milk from because I’m happy knowing those cows are happy 🙂
