Sunday Pause (Paws): Eyes

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and look deep into my eyes. You’re getting sleepy, very, very sleepy. OK, so maybe not but I did write a poem about “eyes.” I hope you enjoy. 🙂

EYES

When you look into my eyes
What is it that you see?
Am I just “another”
Are you truly looking at me?

my-eyes-aafbt

The gateway to the soul
It seems eyes can reveal
A bit about each of us
And how we may feel

If you take the time
To slow down, to truly look
You can see that I’m not
A mystery or a closed book

When I pay attention
I don’t even have to strain
You come to “life” suddenly
I see your joy and your pain

Looking into the eyes of an animal
Do you think it’s not the same?
Do you think it’s different
When they’re wild vs. tame?

cino-eyes-aafbt
If you’re truly looking
They too have a story to tell
Open your eyes and you’ll see
They have joy and pain as well

All you have to do is stop
And look into their eyes
You’ll see that all life matters
Despite what the world implies

©Animals Are Feeling Beings Too

Although the main point of my poem is to SEE animals, this applies to so much more. If we take the time to really look at animals, flowers, the sky, ourselves, others…not a quick look, or a glance, or a look with only half our mind in focus, but an “I am lost in your eyes” look…what will we see?

Pause today and take a look around.

Happy Sunday!

P.S. Please visit my post from late last night, Forget the Dogs…It’s “Happy Cat Month” and maybe share a pic.

Thank you so much! I think that is awesome that you are writing a children’s book about animals and how humans treat them. You probably read on my “About” page that I truly believe children, if we teach them, can make a difference for animals in the future. I am now following your blog too and am excited to see your book when it is done. 🙂
