Sunday Pause (Paws): Friendship

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and be thankful for friends.

We all have our highs and our lows in life. If you read my post from last Sunday then you know I’m kind of at a low right now. But during this low I’ve been feeling love & support around me from some people that I didn’t even know cared. I don’t know where I’d be without them. I wrote the following poem as an outlet for what I’ve been going through and to express gratitude for the support.

WITH THE HELP OF YOUR FRIENDS

It’s an emotional journey
This thing called life
Sometimes filled with peace
And sometimes filled with strife

Chaos everywhere you turn
The world is not in a good place
Sometimes making it hard
To deal with challenges you face

Emotions are building up
You’ve kept them bottled up too long
You’re brought down to your knees
Trying to figure out what’s going wrong

Changes going on around you
Making you take a look in the mirror
Bringing you to a crossroads
Making you face your fears

Could you need some help
Dealing with the pain you have inside?
Should you let others in
Instead of always trying to hide?

You feel yourself falling
So you reach out your hand
You feel someone grab hold
Lifting you up and helping you stand

Crying on their shoulder
You’re at the end of your rope
It’s time to break down the wall
You’ve built to help you cope

Now that you’re letting it out
Maybe you’re finally on the mend
Repairing that broken heart
With the help of your friends

With Thanksgiving only a few days away I wanted to take this time to shed a light on friendship. I am one who doesn’t have the easiest time letting people get close to me and I feel like I’m learning all the time how to BE a friend. But I do know it is important and it does make life more beautiful.

Friendship gives you someone to lean on.

Whether with two legs or four, we all need friends.

I don’t know what I would do without my best friend, Cino, and she’s here with some great advice…”kick back and have a relaxing Sunday” (as you can see, she is!).

Happy Sunday! Appreciate your friends.

Girl, I think we all tend to build walls around ourselves at times when we reach low points. Some, like one of my heroes, start building those walls during childhood to stave off pressure from overbearing (but well-meaning) parents. The important thing is to recognize the need to reach out for help. And it seems you are recognizing that need. Good for you! I’m “here” and I care, so feel free to reach out.

  2. Maria Tatham, a gentle iconoclast

LeeAnn, my friend and neighbor has been through major health difficulties for the last year and a half. On Friday, after having had her cat Boo die during a long hospital stay last year, she adopted from the Humane Society a 4 month old ginger kitten she named Oscar – a very happy day for my friend and Oscar. He is at home already.

This time of year is very rough when we’ve had a loved one pass away as you have. I hope and pray your holiday is filled with love!!
