Is your cat constipated?

Maybe you have noticed a change in your cat’s bowel movement habits. They haven’t gone for a while or they seem to be struggling at getting it to come out. If you really feel your cat could be constipated, try giving them a little pumpkin. You can purchase some canned pumpkin (I used Libby’s from the grocery store) and give them a little to eat alone or try mixing it with their food. It might take a few days or so to take affect.

You can store the leftover pumpkin in the refrigerator for approximately 3 days. If this helps your cat and then you still have leftovers, store the rest in the freezer until you need it again. It should be good in the freezer for approximately 3 months.

I only mentioned cats because that is what I have and that is what my vet had told me to do when she had constipation. I would assume this should work for dogs too. I also have seen canned pumpkin products out there just for pets.

Do you comb your cat? If you don’t you should?

Combing your cat has many benefits.

  • It can minimize the amount your cat is licking up and consuming which in turn will help with hairballs.
  • It helps take out dry skin (loose flakes- you don’t want to comb too hard)
  • It helps keep your cat’s fur health and shiny
  • It will help eliminate the amount of fur left around the house
  • Combing your cat becomes a bonding time

I use the one pictured above which you can get at almost any Pet Store. It’s a little expensive but will last a lifetime and works great.
