This Tuesday’s Tale: Remembering Lisa

This is a bit of a different Tuesday Tale. It’s about a human being, but it’s also about a dog she loved.

Our family received some devastating news this past weekend. My sister passed away at only 53 years old. Her name was Lisa.

We are still on an emotional roller coaster and still have the funeral to come. I considered skipping this Tuesday’s Tale post, but writing is a healing thing for me, an outlet.

My sister was very sick, although her death was still unexpected. She had a hard time taking care of herself, let alone a dog. But when her friend would visit she would bring this little dog with. The dog would stay with my sister often while the family had various things going on and it seems Lisa had fallen in love with this little dog named Eli.

Eli

Not long ago she had asked me for some advice on how she could help Eli. His family was moving and couldn’t bring him with, I guess. He was three years old and never was potty trained, so her concern was no-one would adopt him. She knew due to her health she could not take care of him, but she was concerned on what his fate might be if he was taken to a shelter. This is when I brought up No-Kill Shelters to her.

The time came for Eli to lose his home and be taken to a shelter not that long ago. My sister told me she was so grateful that I told her about No-Kill Shelters. She said she and Eli’s mom had never heard of them. During the last conversation I had with my sister she said “I know you’ll do Eli right by doing a blog post about him and passing on to others that there are No-Kill Shelters out there.” This is what I am trying to do right now. But little did we know I would also be writing a post about her. My heart is heavy.

I pray sweet Eli has already found a new forever home and I pray sweet Lisa that you have found a new forever home with Jesus!

LeeAnn, I actually thought of you Sunday, that you might be dealing with a pending death in your family. I thought of you because we had just learned that a good frriend in our church had just lost his brother, who was killed in a motorcycle accident a day earlier. Their Mom is also a friend. The Sword apears to be piercing souls in our periphery. I am so sorry about your sister!

I have known of no-kill shelters, but the shelter in our area is not one of them to my knowledge. Something to lobby for; thank you for raising it up!

    Take god care!

Of course she would! And I will pray for you as you recover from your grief, and for very precious Eli to move soon into a forever home. He is adorable, and he looks very companionable , too!

I am so sorry for your loss 😦 I am glad she wanted to help sweet Eli and thought to ask you for advice, and that she was able to find a no-kill shelter for him to go to. I hope Eli has found a good forever home, or will find one soon. Prayers to you and your family.

I’m so sorry to hear about your loss, LeeAnn. I too lost my sister some eight years ago, she was 57. It’s very, very hard to accept. But I know you will find the strength – here you are, already thinking of how to help other creatures in need!
