One Simple Thing That Brings Joy to My Life

Daily writing prompt
Describe one simple thing you do that brings joy to your life.

I don’t write much these days due to a major writer’s block and have been using my creativity and expression in other ways. But when I saw this “daily prompt”, I knew immediately what my answer would be.

One simple thing that brings joy to my life….animals in general, but more specifically, my cat Cino! My sweetie just turned 18 years old.🎈🎂

When I am having a stressful day, I can’t wait to hold Cino. I calm down within minutes. Her sweetness, innocence, and quiet purr is like a big hug!

Watching her chase the light that reflects from my hand mirror each morning when I am getting ready, makes me laugh.

Watching her sleep curled up so comfortable and at peace, makes me tear up and smile.

Watching her get the zoomies and jump onto her climber at 18 years old makes me grateful!

Having her in my life, that’s JOY!

The best thing I ever learned is that writer’s block doesn’t exist. I learned it in an insanely busy newsroom where there was no option to say “I can’t file that story today, I’ve got writer’s block.” And I learned it doesn’t exist in the creative writing realm either, thanks to Steven Pressfield’s The War of Art. As Pressfield put it, writing when you’re not inspired is extremely important, so that when you *are* inspired, you’re “in possession of the full arsenal of skills” to make the most of it.

Don’t get me wrong, some days it just flows out of me, and some days I have to push myself, but the ability never goes away. I hope that helps. Pressfield’s book is definitely worth a look. Happy Birthday to Cino!
