A pet is not just a pet. A pet is a family member. That is exactly what Anders has been to a co-worker of mine.
Anders was added to their family when he was just a kitten. Sadly he passed away this past weekend. My coworker is devastated by this loss and was somewhat embarrassed that she was crying about it.
We have funerals for people, but many times when a beloved pet passes it’s just swept under the rug and people grieve in private. Well I wanted to honor Anders because his life is worthy to be recognized. After-all he was a part of someone’s family for 15 years.
People should not have to feel like they have to hide or justify their pain. The grief and pain of losing a pet is real!
Anders was very loved and will be greatly, greatly missed. He may be gone but he will never be forgotten.

this was a lovely post and I am sure your friend will cherish it. It was so nice of you to honor sweet Anders (what a cutie). My Angel Bobo passed in 2007 and I could STILL cry about it today as if it just happened. She shouldn’t be embarrassed, she should surround herself with pet lovers who “get it.”

I know what you mean. I still get teary eyed at times thinking about the dog I grew up with and he passed many years ago. It bothers me that there are people who don’t “get it.” All I can do is keep trying to spread the word that animals matter.

I have two cats and feel so sad when others grieve for their beloved pets. I think some people don’t handle the grief of others for pets or anything or person they love. Cats just come in and love away their hearts to us. And we love away our hearts to them. Also some people are afraid of making us cry, when actually that helps bring healing. We want to talk about or lost loved ones. You go ahead and grieve and talk to whom you can talk with. Hugs and healng to the empty spot left in your heart.
