Sunday Pause (Paws): Time

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and remember.

Time, it certainly does fly by.

Yesterday was already the one year anniversary of my sister’s death. My mom & I were sitting on the bench at the cemetery talking about how fast the year went. Sometimes we still think her death was just a dream.

The best way for me to get out my emotions is through writing poetry. So here is one I wrote remembering my sister Lisa.

Prioritize, the list can wait
Because it will soon be too late

We say “tomorrow” in our exhaust
Not realizing the time will soon be lost

Time it seems to quickly pass
Slow down, you’re going way too fast

One day I go to pick up the phone
But then I remember you’re never coming home

The last conversation I had with you
It makes me wonder if you knew

But wait I still have things to voice
Now you’re gone there is no choice

But wait I didn’t get that one more hug
Now on my heart I feel a permanent tug

But wait I didn’t get to say…
I guess I should have seized the day

Time will not wait, it will go on
Don’t waste it, but embrace each new dawn

Time is precious, it goes by quick. Look around you and soak it all in. Don’t take anything, especially time, for granted. Things can change in a heartbeat.

I miss you Lisa.

  1. My Golden Life

Very poignant, beautiful poem. Yes, time does pass quickly; and, no, it doesn’t wait for anyone or anything. I let too many things go unsaid between my Dad and myself; at least I had the chance to apologize – and receive his forgiveness – for “everything” before he passed away.
