Sunday Pause (Paws): Imagining

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and let our imaginations run free.

Imagining is not just about make believe. It can also be about experiencing something that is yet to happen.

We can imagine while we’re driving to a restaurant a big juicy veggie burger (ha! gotcha there with the “veggie” part, didn’t I?). By imagining it we can see it, get excited about it, and even just about taste it.

If we have a speech to make we can imagine ourselves sweating in front of the group and forgetting most of the words.

If we are missing a lost loved one we can imagine they are right there with us and it can bring a smile to our face even for a moment.

Our pastor likes to do “imagining exercises.” A few years ago when he was talking about losing loved ones he had us all close our eyes and imagine the one we lost. We were to imagine them in a field, a garden, wherever we wanted. We talked with them, cried with them, and were saying our goodbyes. Then we imagined them going…driving off in a car, going up in a hot air balloon, however, but we needed to let them go. Something like this can be healing.

Our imagination is limitless.

I wrote the following poem. I hope you enjoy.

If you close your eyes
And let your mind be set free
Blind to the world around you
What is it that you’d see?

Away from all the crowded places
In there you’re all alone
Deaf to all the noises
Your thoughts are all your own

With your eyes shut
Your mind is open wide
A blank canvas is before you
What goes on it you decide

Everything’s dark and it’s silent
It’s all in your control
Let a picture begin to form
Let out what’s in your soul

The finished masterpiece
Although now we can only imagine
Can be the start of something great
We can be a part of making happen

Life isn’t all rainbows and unicorns…but we can imagine!

Sundays are a great day to set aside, take it easy, and rest. We all need rest. We can get this on Sundays, or by taking time off of our jobs, taking a road trip, or going on a vacation. For those times when you can’t actually take a vacation or get that needed break from things, try going on vacation in your mind. 🙂

So how would you use the gift of imagination?

Happy Sunday!

Note: I am noticing a ton of ads on my posts lately. There has always been a couple but it seems they have ramped it up. Ugh! I will work on that…eventually. I find it quite annoying. Sorry if you do too.

I need to turn on my imagination. I haven’t used it in such a long time, it probably has cobwebs. Loved the poem. I don’t see any ads, unless maybe your seeing them in emails. I noticed WordPress puts them in the emails that are sent out.
