The Tale of Rocky and His Rescue From the Woods
The Animal Rescue Site
With fireworks soon to be going off all around, I thought it fitting to share this story about a senior dog who went missing after fireworks last year.
Rocky, a senior dog, was frightened by fireworks and ran off into the woods. His family had been searching for him for days when some loggers found him. They contacted the local Humane Society. Noticing this dog was having trouble walking, a man carried him out of the woods.
Sadly, it turns out Rocky also has cancer. 😦 But, fortunately, he was reunited with his family. I have included a link at the end of the post so you can watch the live rescue of Rocky on the Conway Area Humane Society Facebook Page.
Unfortunately, there are many animals that do not get the happy ending that Rocky did. Some are never reunited with their family.
If you haven’t seen my previous post: Safety For Your Pets During Fireworks, here is a comment a fellow blogger left me on that post.
Thanks for this! In the past, while traveling, my dog, Tula, had ran away from fireworks. Luckily, she is now safe. Her BD is on July 4th though so we try to celebrate it as best as we can safely while being inside! This is really great information! Please share it with others who don’t have access to this blog! Thank you so much!
I Love My Dogs, Tula & MOCHI
I have shared it on my Facebook Page and encourage others to share this post as well as the safety post. Let’s keep our furry family members, safe this holiday!
In a previous post I shared the graphic below that I made, only it was in black & white. I have changed it for the holiday to focus on three of the FEELINGS experienced by our pets from the fireworks: Fear, Confusion, & Anxiety.
This graphic is also available to share on my Facebook Page: Fourth of July Feelings Image.
Without further ado, here is the video post on Rocky’s Rescue: Rocky’s Rescue.

Effie isn’t out at night, and she hasn’t been startled by fireworks in the past, but she’ll snuggle in with us if she is! But there are some terrible accounts out there. . . .My husband’s father’s hunting dog, Susie, was ruined by a fiend who lobbed a string of firecrackers into her kennel. She survived, but she was always gun-shy for the rest of her life. Her whole joy in life had been hunting, but she could no longer perform what she loved and was born to do.

Oh my goodness! So, did they throw them in her kennel intentionally?

Yes. It was one or more trespassers and their terribly cruel deed could only have been deliberate. No one was ever caught.

I will keep my thoughts about those people to myself, but I can tell you they are not pretty thoughts. People like that do not know empathy. If they did, they would reverse the situation in their head and see how they wouldn’t like it, so either does a helpless animal.

Exactly. Lack of empathy describes a sociopath or a psychopath. For people who don’t like clinical terms, “monster” also works.

Grrrr!!! Makes me so mad. Glad Susie is ok!

Susie could never return to hunting, her life purpose and passion. She lived another five years and died at 10. This happened long ago, when my husband was a child.

At least she was alive. So sad though. 😦
