You Don’t Own Me

Hello all. I hope you have had a good week! As you know, I get ideas for a post on things that happen in my own life (conversations, events, things I read, things I experience, etc.) This past week someone was talking to me about their pet and they used that three letter word “own.” I hate that word when people are talking about their pets. They may be “our” pet but we do not own them. We adopted them and brought them into our family. Do we consider our children something we own because they are ours? When we marry do we now “own” each other?

We do not own anything that has breath. What we have done is made a commitment. A commitment to care for, be there for, and be faithful to whether it be a partner, a baby we adopted, or an animal we brought into our home.

This is a serious topic, for me very serious. I literally cringe when someone uses the word “own.” My mission and logo is to “Change how the world views animals.” But I thought I would throw a little fun into this post. Who has seen “The First Wives Club?” Whether you have or not you may know the iconic song “You Don’t Own Me.” I challenge you to listen to the words when you play the video and to think of animals instead of a man. When you do you’ll see how this can be somewhat fitting to animals as well.

Sunday Pawzing To Show Off Pets

It’s Sunday and it’s also “Pet Photo Day” or what I like to think of as simply “Show Off Your Pet Day.”

I have a video (instead of a photo) of Cino below where she is playing with her favorite toy mousey. I keep a basket of toys under a table in the living room. I only pull it out once and a while just to change it up. I pulled it out last weekend but didn’t get any toys out. A little while later there was Cino in the bin checking everything out and helping herself to the toys. After pawing, sniffing, and checking them all out the one she pulled out was her mousey. She loves her mousey! She was having such a good time tugging, biting, throwing, and pouncing on mousey that I quickly grabbed my phone and started recording. I didn’t start recording quick enough to get it all or the cutest part but I think us pet parents know how challenging that can be. At least you can see her and her favorite toy.

Later on she picked up mousey with her teeth and put it back in the bin. I mean, how adorable is that?! I’m disappointed I didn’t get that on video.

Let me know in a comment if you did a post on “Pet Photo Day” so I can check it out. I may even ask your permission to use the photo in one of my future posts.

I hope you enjoy your day. Happy Sunday!

For The Love Of Cats

Finally! I was finally able to finish the video I was working on two weeks ago when I ran into all kinds of software/computer trouble. It so happens that today is Cat World Domination Day! So it worked out ok because what a perfect day to share it. 🐱

I put the video together in honor of a cat that was beaten on live video. Continue reading

Sunday Pause (Paws): Animals Need To Relax Too

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back & relax and relaxing isn’t just for us.

There are so many animals that never get to really relax. Cows kept in confinement and hooked up to machines so humans can take their milk. Calves kept in the smallest possible area so they don’t build muscle so humans can have veal. Elephants chained up so they can “perform” for humans. Pit bulls living every minutes in fear of abuse so humans can use them to make money in dog fights. The list goes on but since I try to keep my Sunday posts “light” I will stop there. You get the idea!

But the theme of WHO is causing all of this harm is humans. I can’t help but imagine what God would say if we sat down and asked him what he thought about how humans treat his animals.

Cino is able to curl up and relax this Sunday and I hope the animals in your care are able to as well.

Sunday Pause (Paws): For The Season

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back and relax.

But how much relaxing do we actually get during this time of year?!

Even with all the prep and work it is still my favorite time of year!

We wish you a blessed Christmas, however you may celebrate this year. 🎄

Happy Sunday!

Sunday Pause (Pause): Be Kind Because Kindness Is A Superpower

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and spread a little kindness.

I came across a video clip talking about kindness and they called it a super power.

Here is the video:

Everyone could use some of this these days, including animals. Continue reading

Sunday Pause (Paws): Thoughts About A World In Chaos

All we have to do is look around to see that the world is in chaos. I don’t see how this will change things.

There is so much going on and yes, there is some good in there, but the bad and the ugly really seems to be coming out.

We’re battling a pandemic, there is looting and violence going on everywhere, and it’s election year.

Some say the pandemic is a hoax. Some are against wearing a mask. The truth is nobody likes wearing a mask. But if there is even a minuscule chance that wearing one will save someone else’s life (or your own), shouldn’t that be enough?

When it comes to elections I would be curious to see how many people actually learn the facts, views, and plans on both sides before they start criticizing the other candidate, the candidate supporters, and before they actually cast their vote. I suspect there are many people who focus in on one thing they are angry about or just listen to what others are saying without finding out the facts and making their own decisions. Elections in themselves never bring out the good in people. This is when you can see people at their ugliest. Everyone is so passionate about their beliefs which there is nothing wrong with. What is wrong is when people become so blatantly cruel toward those who do not believe the same as they do.

When I first became an animal advocate Continue reading

Sunday Pause (Paws): Staying In The Moment

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and stay in the moment.

Restaurants and stores are opening back up, people are going back to work, and people are starting to gather. This trying time is far from over but we’re getting back to our lives (somewhat).

Normally many of us find ourselves on a never ending merry-go-round finding it hard to rest and just be. Some are afraid to because if they allow themselves to rest or sit in quiet, instead of chaos, they may have to think about or face something they don’t want to but maybe should. I have been given the challenge before to just sit in complete silence, to just be, and to set aside all of my worries, focus on just one thing, or just clear my mind. Have you ever tried that? It is not as easy as you may think. Before you know it your mind is wandering back to the to do list or worrying about something. It’s amazing how hard it is to truly just be in the moment.

We can certainly take lessons from our pets on this as this image below wonderfully portrays.

Do Something

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back and relax. But not for too long because the world needs you, me, WE.

I heard a song recently called “DO SOMETHING” and thought it was perfect not only because that is what I am doing for animals and encouraging others to, but also it seems perfect for the times.

I wrote a poem a while back in this image below and it has the same message the song does. We wonder why God isn’t doing anything. His reply is that he is. He’s waiting for us.
