Sunday Pause (Paws): The Butterfly And The Breeze

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and admire nature such as a beautiful butterfly or a fresh breeze that can do wonders for the soul .

To me one of the most relaxing things is to sit outside when there is a breeze. I’ll even close my eyes and just focus on it. There is something about it that is so comforting, not only to provide coolness when it’s hot out, but comfort for the soul.

Today is the second anniversary of my sister’s death and I remember when a breeze (and a butterfly) comforted me when I was grieving the loss. I wrote a poem about it.

The Butterfly and the Breeze

Their beautiful and colorful wings
Take them high and low, they are free
Fluttering all around us
It is not an uncommon thing to see

But I know on this one day
It was not just a butterfly
In my confusion and dismay
It was my sister stopping by

She flew by me then landed
On a bush right by my car
I walked over to the butterfly
And I said “I know who you are”

When came that dreadful day
Gathering together to honor you
All of us going through the motions
Just trying to get through

We sat and listened to the pastor
We tried to listen word for word
But crying people in the pews
Was the loudest sound we heard

With heads hung low and heavy hearts
As we said our goodbyes by the trees
You let us know everything would be alright
When you came over us as a strong breeze

You never know where it might come from
Comfort and hope in those times hard to bear
Mine came from a butterfly and a breeze
And with a lot of time in prayer

Go out and feel a breeze today and maybe you’ll even see a butterfly too. All of God’s creation is so beautiful.

Happy Sunday!

LeeAnn, girl after my own heart, I believe you have discovered a cure to grief: prayer, a butterfly, a sermon that inspired you to mitigate your grief with God’s wonderful gifts He has placed in His world to bring you peace as you behold His beauty. God bless you, dear girl. Your progress and your peace are with you and evident to you and all those who share your wonderful healing gifts. May God continue to bless you!
