Why I Do What I Do

As an animal advocate it can be frustrating feeling like you have to defend yourself. When people don’t feel the same passion that you do about, anything really, it is hard for them to understand. To me, when it comes to something like the well-being of another living being, I truly can’t understand how they can’t feel the same way. So as you can see, the “not understanding” goes both ways.

I wrote a poem that I feel encompasses why I do what I do. If you have been following me for a while you know this is one way I get out my emotions. I hope when you read it you can see my heart and passion come through.

WHY I DO WHAT I DO

People often wonder
Why I do what I do
I say they wouldn’t be asking
If they knew what I knew

Seen as “one of those”
But do they know our case
Animals are living, feeling beings
Have you looked close into their face?

To me my pet is my baby
You don’t have to feel the same
I’m sure you agree that at least
Every animal should live free of pain

A baby piglet is slammed
Right onto the hard ground
One after the other by men
Harmed baby piglets in a big mound

A baby calf in a small space
The suffering is so very real
Day after day to build no muscle
So one day it can be someone’s veal

A bull is let loose
Arrows thrown at him
Blood dripping everywhere
With people screaming at their win

To elephants family is important
Yet they are hunted and ripped away
Abused until they have no choice
Fear is why at the circus they obey

A mouse ever so small
To some a pet, a great friend
But to some seen as a nuisance
And endure a life of experiments on them

These animals are God’s creation
He created the meow, moo, neigh, and roar
But they are being harmed and abused
And this I certainly can not ignore

You see I am not someone
Who is just “one of those”
I am someone who has great empathy
For the animals and their great woes

You echo my hearts sentiment exactly! 🐈 I am ” one of those” too.
I figure it’s their lose…..maybe..one day…they’ll care for something as close to them as we do….and hopefully…maybe they’ll discover their own passion to stand for Something…Someone…too.
Thank you so much for your beauty and heart felt caring. No matter what…I won’t give up…..don’t you give up either. We Are Making a Difference…..one God blessed soul at a time! πŸ’ž Keep up the great work and words. Just remember..People like us are so richly blessed with a truly resilient heart and a never ending love. We reflect the kind of live Jesus wants us to have for All of his creation…even humans. So don’t be too hard on those that don’t understand….they’re just not there on the same level….not yet. But one day….I have faith in God that they will be. So pray and forgive and keep on loving.
    Be love….
    Be Blessed….
    Be a Hero!
    🐈 Andrea.

My heart and mind agree with you, LeeAnn. I wish I had the energy to fight for animals directly. Certainly if I witnessed or knew of a specifically abusive situation I would bring in law enforcement. As for policies that have enabled abuse, i.e, animal testing, I feel horrible about it, but there were no alternative methodologies to ensure product safety for humans. Now pressure is mounting to use biochemical modeling instead of animals when testing cosmetics. I’m not up to speed on medical testing, but if you have any information on that I’d be interested to know the status on animals being used for drug testing. 🐾

Michelle and I love animals, she takes in anything she can as a rescue. I can’t stand the thought of hunters shooting deer, just for the sport. Survival for food, is bad enough, but just for the blood sport, it is wrong to me. They pretend many animals have no real feelings, or souls. They should try watching a mouse taking care of her young, or a young deer frolicking in the snow for the first time. I really hate animal testing. Some of it is right up there in crazy level, the things they do to them, “just to see”.

This was a purely touching post and poem to read. I know how you feel. It hurts my heart so much that people just don’t get it. I try to support it in every instance but especially within Christianity because that is the base of my family’s morals. For Christianity, I go to Genesis. This is where God explains the intentions of all he created. I stress that God says that man is to have dominion over all on the Earth and that man is to watch over it. For me that is different from mass manipulation of all on the Earth. I also like to think of how many times God stresses the shepherd and his role to the sheep. The shepherd is to risk his life to guide and guard those sheep and keep them safe. How does that justify the terrible abuse they get in wool industries? How can people not care? I hope the points I’m making are clear to you, I really do feel the pain that you feel as far as animal mistreatment goes. Animals are just so pure. Especially with pets, you can see how forgiving they are and how loving they are; sometimes I wish all humans were the same way. Anyways, keep touching lives and keep spreading the word. Much love and strength your way!

Thank you so much for your great comment and thoughts. I completely understand what you are saying. I see it the exact same way and I am always trying to convey that. I really feel the world is getting it wrong when it comes to animals and I think God must have many tears over this. I always love meeting fellow animal lovers. In fact your comment brought me to tears, but in a good way. πŸ™‚
