Neglecting The Signs

Hello all. I did not write a Sunday Pawzing post today. Sundays are the day I set aside for writing posts and I try to keep them on the “lighter” side. But since I am not currently writing posts during the week, and this is what is on my mind, I wrote about domestic abuse and animal abuse and how they are intertwined. Therefore, I am not calling it “Sunday Pawzing.”

This is on my mind because someone I know, who we suspect is in an abusive relationship, just had a huge fight with this guy she is living with. Unfortunately her mom was going out of town for the week and bringing her dog to stay with them. This, of course, has me very concerned for her and the dog’s safety.

There is ample research that shows the link between animal violence and human violence. The signs are there in children but people often ignore them. This is a very dangerous thing to do. Continue reading

PACT Act…What Took So Long?

Today the bill was signed and The PACT Act makes animal cruelty a felony in the U.S.

I am overjoyed but I also have to ask….what took so long?

Sunday Pause (Paws): Just Ask

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and ask for help.

We all need to ask for help sometimes, but it isn’t an easy thing to do. I am going through a very trying time with purchasing a townhome. Through the process there have been ups & downs, highs & lows, and feeling like I’m going crazy. It’s still not over (help).

Even though I fall to my knees in tears at times and beg God to help when it doesn’t feel like he is, I really know he is. Maybe it’s me not listening to him.

This is the same for helping animals. Sometimes it feels like we’re getting nowhere, but we are. Sometimes we feel like God isn’t helping us with this, but he is.

I pray all the time for no more abuse
But then comes another horrible case
It brings me to tears and I feel helpless
So I ask for help in my quiet place

Sunday Pause (Paws): For Farm Animals

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and take in the truth, even if it may be difficult.

I like to try to keep most of my Sunday posts more on the light side. But my blog is about being a voice for animals. So, I apologize, but today I am writing about a serious topic…the treatment of farm animals.

It came across my Facebook Newsfeed about the undercover investigation at Fair Oaks Farms and the abuse of calves there recorded on video. I couldn’t bring myself to watch the videos. I got the gist from all of the headlines and comments.

Abuse of farm animals is not uncommon. They get away with it because it happens behind closed doors. We see the “happy cow” commercials, but I don’t think there are a whole lot of actual happy cows on factory farms. Even the word “factory” gets me. Animals are not objects to live in a factory. God made them to live, play, graze, move, and BE with other animals. He didn’t create them for abuse and mistreatment by his other creation…us. This has to stop!

Sunday Pause (Paws): Hello “Be Kind To Animals” Week

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and welcome the first day of “Be Kind To Animals Week”.

I wanted to honor this recognition of animals with this Sunday’s post. But we at AAFBT think you should always be kind to animals. In fact we now have a mission statement and here is Cino as “Animal Paladin” to introduce it to you…

I like to say to help animals it takes me, it takes you, it takes WE and that is so true. Here is a great example. A coworker of mine was dropping her son off at school and there on the edge of the sidewalk was a little duck in her words “crying.” He was laying on his side crying and shivering Continue reading

Sunday Pause (Paws): Animal Paladin

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, read a little poem and meet Cino as dun, dun, dun, dun…Animal Paladin!

(In case you don’t know, because I didn’t, Paladin means leading champion of a cause, hero, devoted to kindness.)

TRYING TO SAVE THE DAY

Animals of all sizes and shapes,
The dogs, cats, lions, and apes
Intended by God to be blessed,
And instead are being oppressed
Listen up, don’t you fear,
The AAFBT team is here
With Super Animal Paladin,
Doing a lot of the battling

Sunday Pause (Paws): Cino’s Prayer

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and how about saying a prayer.

I made a new cartoon image of Cino. Since our goal with this blog is to advocate for animals I thought I would introduce the image with Cino in prayer.

That’s exactly what I want…no more abuse! Unfortunately, that may not happen in this Continue reading

Sunday Pause (Paws): Poetry Read Aloud

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and enjoy a poetry reading by me.

If you have been following me for a while you most likely know that I am always trying new things such as photography, editing, poetry and now the newest…making videos/reading aloud. With these new things I still always have animal advocacy in mind. I’m sure I have a lot to learn yet but through some online research about poetry I found that it is important to read it aloud. The following was taken from dummies.com.

The music of poetry — that is, its sounds and rhythms — isn’t just for the eye and the mind, it’s meant to be given voice.

I never really thought about it but I get it because that is exactly what I have to do. To tell how the “flow” of a poem is going I have to read it out loud to myself as I am writing it.

Now reading them aloud while recording…that’s another thing and it’s not an easy task. Aside of the Dr. Seuss type of short story/rhyme I wrote, read aloud, and posted last Sunday (which is probably more geared towards children and I actually did read it to the children where I work this past week) this is only my second time recording myself. So although it may not be perfect I created the following video from a poem I wrote last year called “Butterfly Wings.”

I hope you enjoyed it. Comments welcomed and encouraged to help me learn & grow.

Happy Sunday!

We Have A Choice

I recently created the image below to post on Facebook. Then in my “Facebook Memories” I was reminded of a poem I wrote last year. So I put the image and the poem together and walah…a blog post. 🙂

WHY I DO WHAT I DO

People often wonder
Why I do what I do
I say they wouldn’t be asking
If they knew what I knew

Seen as “one of those”
But do they know our case
Animals are living, feeling beings
Have you looked close into their face?

I Can’t Let It Be

I can’t even bring myself to read the full story about the dogs & roosters rescued from a place in Wisconsin. I read the dogs had wounds & scars and the roosters were surgically altered for fighting. That was all I could handle and I can barely handle that.
