We Won! (So The Animals Win Too)

Hello all!

Some of you know that I absolutely love the Red Rover Readers program! I have talked about it before here on my blog. I want so much to make a difference in this world for animals. I always pray that there will be more and stronger laws. But then when I think about this program, I think maybe we need to focus more on human beings and how they treat animals instead of solely relying on the law to take care of it. After all, when the law steps in the damage has already been done.

The Red Rover Readers program is all about teaching empathy. Empathy to animals ultimately helps human beings. As I have pointed out in other posts of mine, there is research that proves the link between animal cruelty and human violence. Children are our future, so we need to start with them to make a change.

Some of you also know I work at a place that cares for children. I took the Red Rover Readers course a few years ago and have been working on implementing it in the classrooms. Just last week one of the classrooms & I read one of the books that is part of this program to the children and held a discussion with the children about how they think the dog felt by looking at his face/posture. I took a picture per the instructions for a drawing, sent it in, and we won!

Sunday Pause (Paws): Centaur

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax and enjoy amazing talent.

If you live where there is snow you have probably gone to events where they have snow sculptures. This talent amazes me.

Well I didn’t even have to go to an event this year. Someone made this incredible centaur in their front yard right in my neighborhood.

Sunday Pause (Paws): Or Maybe Another Day

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back & relax.

Sundays are a great day to set aside for things like friends, family, doing things you enjoy, & rest. But sometimes it’s not just Sundays.

I got pretty sick this week and missed two days of work. I was pushing through the beginning of the week and I got to a point where I just knew, no more. I have to stay home and rest.

Sunday Pause (Paws): Music…It Moves The Soul

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and let some music take you away.

I watched the movie “August Rush” on Netflix recently and it moved me to tears. This movie is about a little boy who lives in an orphanage and he runs away to look for his parents. His parents are musicians and he is a music prodigy. Aside of the fact that the plot of the movie is incredibly heartwarming, the music they play throughout is beautiful! I found myself crying and filled with goosebumps at times. Music has a way of doing that doesn’t it?

We all have certain songs that really move us. One of mine is Continue reading

Do Pets Know?

Today when I was walking down the hallway toward the apartment I could hear Cino’s collar tags jingling around, her pawing at the door, and her meowing. It made me smile! I felt like she knew it was me and I was coming home. In fact it gave me such a happy feeling I started walking faster and I started talking to her at the other side of the door as I was working the key in the lock. I was as excited to see her as she was to see me! After all, I get to see this cute face. 🙂

Sunday Pause (Paws): For Some Football

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and watch some football.

If you live in the states today is a big day! It’s Super Bowl Day! I know many people will either be attending a party or sitting in front of their own tv to watch it.

So I figured I would keep this post short & sweet and simply say…

Sunday Pause (Paws): Good for the Soul

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back and relax.

Sunday is a day of relaxing so that you have the strength to tackle the week ahead. But this doesn’t always mean just laying around and doing nothing. It is also a day for regrouping. If there were an opportunity to help others out we wouldn’t say no just because it is Sunday. Actually, doing things for others can be very uplifting and good for the soul. This can be part of regrouping.

Today I am going to an event at my friend’s house called “Sandwich Project for the Homeless.” A bunch of us will be putting together over a hundred sandwiches that will be brought to a local shelter.

Sunday Pause (Paws): Fun In The Snow

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and play in the snow!

The idea for this post all started with the photo of the horse below from This Old Horse. I thought it was the most adorable photo and immediately asked them if I could share the photo with you all.
