It’s coming our way and I anticipate my cat will be hiding under a blanket as she usually does.
I read a few tips about how to help your pet during a storm. One of them is exactly what my cat does…allow them to hide. Make a few safe spots for them in the house. I provide a blanket for her to hide under in the living room so she stays near me. But she can also go in her bed, under the bed, under the sheets (as pictured in photo) wherever she needs to. Peteducation.com has a great article that can walk you through some steps to be prepared. Here is one quote from the article:
“You will be taking your cat out of a familiar environment, putting him into a noisy, moving vehicle, then expecting him to adjust to new surroundings, new people and perhaps, new animals. This is a lot to ask, and no matter how wonderful you and your home are, even the most easy-going cat is likely to be stressed and nervous.”

I did this training online earlier this year. This is an awesome thing. Its teaching children empathy for animals! If you’re an educator you know this also teaches empathy to humans. Studies have shown connections.
If have teacher friends, share this with them. The more schools this program is in, the more the world will start treating animals with the respect and care God intended for them. The more we will be a part of making a change in the world.
As temperatures rise, it’s important to keep pets cool.
The following tips are from the Humane Society of the United States:
Never leave your pet in the car
Don’t put your pet in the back of a truck
Watch out for fertilizers and deadly plants
Recognizing the Signs of a Heat Stroke

Below are a few links to the game for children “Toca Pet Doctor.” In this game there are a bunch of animals that are waiting for their turn to be helped at the veterinarian’s office. What happened to them?
I have personally used this game in computer classes that I teach to preschoolers. The children love helping them! I love using this game as an opportunity to discuss caring for animals! We talked about how these animals may have gotten hurt, how this makes them feel, and how it could have been prevented. For example, there is a bird who’s foot is stuck in gum. We discussed how if someone would not have thrown their gum on the ground (littering), the bird would not have gotten stuck in it. Then we discussed how the gum should have been thrown in the garbage.
After the children play “veterinarian” and help the animals, the animals are given treats that the children can feed to them. This teaches which foods each type of animal eats.
For a pretty straight forward game that’s not hard to figure out, there are so many teachable moments in it! Most of all “Caring for Animals.” After all, they are feeling beings that get sick and hurt just like we do!
