This Tuesday’s Tale is not about a dog or cat like they usually are. This is a tale about a bat.
A bat was spotted where I work by some children. Now, keep in mind it is winter and, although we have had unusually warm weather, they are supposed to be in hibernation. This bat was hanging around a bench outside.
What is the first thought that pops into your head when you see a Pitbull?
It’s not unreasonable that you might be a bit nervous and unsure around them given their reputation. You hear about them attacking people and other animals all of the time. There are all kinds of articles out there saying how dangerous they are, yet on the flip side there are articles that defend them.
Personally, I do not need an article to tell me what to think. I believe Pitbulls are taught by bad people to be dangerous. I hear stories about sweet Pitbulls that are beaten (and a lot worse) so they become mad & mean. Then they will fight for awful people in dog fighting rings.
What is wrong with people that watching two sweet, precious, living, feeling beings tear each other apart and to them it is entertainment?! (My rant for the day) Continue reading
This is a tale about a little toy poodle.
There was a couple that had three small children and decided it was time to bring a furry friend into the family. So, one day they all took a drive. The children were told that mom was stopping to get some yarn.
Mom went inside to find a litter of puppies so energetic, so full of wiggles & wags. There was one puppy that caught her eye and she knew he was the one. Mom said the puppy actually picked her. (It seems our pets choose us in most cases, doesn’t it?)
She carried the puppy close to her, hidden, so the children would think it was a black ball of yarn. Surprise! The three children were so excited! They loved this dog so much, especially the youngest one and he soon became the mom’s baby, her “other child.” Continue reading
I saw the story of Pearl on another blog and I thought it was so incredible, I just had to share it. It seemed easiest to reblog it.
Thank you so much Lesley for letting me share this story. Pearl is absolutely beautiful and it crushes me to think about what she went through before she made her way to you. Looking at these beautiful photographs of her, I can see she is now in good hands.
This is exactly why we have to start young in teaching children empathy towards animals and why we all need to be the voice for animals.

I am amazed at all of the stories I have been able to use so far for my “Tuesday Tales.” Most of them are “rescue” stories. This warms my heart so much to know that even though there is way too much abuse out there, there are great people, like you, saving them and taking them away from the abuse.

I recently saw a segment on a news show (BTN11) called KidsSay: Can animals talk?
A conversation that might seem ordinary and cute, to me meant a whole lot more.
A few questions asked to children were:
Do animals talk?
They certainly do! Not in our language, but in their own. A cat meows, a dog barks, and a cow moos. To us its noise, to them it’s a conversation.
Animals also speak with body language. We have to take the time to try to understand what they are trying to tell us by the way they look, move, and sound.
It started last night when I was going through the Newsfeed on Facebook and I saw a post headline and picture about a dog that was abused so badly they said he screamed like a human being when they were approaching him to rescue him. The police officer involved in rescuing him was so moved by this that he has made it his mission to go after the abusers. That is as far as I got. I couldn’t open the post and read it. I was already breaking down. It was the first thing I thought of when I woke up this morning and again I was breaking down.
Most of my posts on Facebook are shared from my blog entries and I know not all of my family & friends are stopping and reading them as they scroll through their Newsfeed. Some people cannot handle seeing or hearing about animal suffering. I am not judging, I get it. I can barely hold it together.
I‘ve seen other images & headlines of elephants on chains, a guy throwing a brick at a dog, a tore up dog from a dogfight. It just goes on and on. Then I start feeling like it is all so overwhelming and I start wondering how I can be making any difference? There are so many animals suffering and I want it all to stop. I wonder if one day this will completely break my spirit.

If you have a dog, there probably has been a time when they have slipped out the door or slipped through the fence. Our little poodle we had growing up was somehow down the street before we knew it many times. If you have a dog you also know getting them back becomes a game. They stand there sniffing around, looking over at you as you are approaching, and then as soon as you just about reach them, they take off! Continue reading

This is a lot to ask, and no matter how wonderful you and your home are, even the most easy-going cat is likely to be stressed and nervous.”
