Animal abuse, a very sad topic, but one that needs to be given attention.
Did you know animal abuse isn’t just someone hitting or hurting their own pet?
Did you know animals are being abused daily and we are allowing it?
On the packaging of items that are organic, such as cheese, it says “Pasture Raised Cows.” There are WAY less organic products available than non-organic products. So what is happening to the other cows?
Man has dominion over the animals, so we can treat them however we want, right? (Of course, that would be a “no”)
Whether someone believes in God or not, how about compassion & empathy?
My recent post, Why I Am A Vegetarian looks at how farm animals are treated today. I truly believe if people actually took the time to find out what is happening to animals before they become “meat in the supermarket” they would reconsider what they are eating.
We have a “head in the sand” society when it comes to animals. What we see is the “laughing cow” and “happy cow” type commercials for companies selling their products. What we don’t see is the cruelty going on to the animals to create those products. Continue reading →
You probably think, well of course, she doesn’t eat meat, she’s a huge animal lover and advocate. I suppose it’s true that’s why I have never been a big meat fan, but I have actually eaten it most of my life. But for as long as I can remember, half way through every meal, I would stop eating the meat portion of the meal. Meat itself is gross to me…the way it looks, blood, veins, and bones, oh yuk! Then when I think about the fact that it is an animal, I am done!
So, I’ve never really liked meat, but then I started learning about slaughterhouses and factory farms. OK, now I had another reason I could not eat an animal, at least not from those who do not care for them in a humane manner.
It is a personal decision whether someone eats meat or not. I do not judge anyone about this. I do, however, want to encourage you to be brave and watch the following video called “Eating Mercifully.” It is a real eye opener and it is SO important to know where your food is coming from, for health benefits and humane reasons.
Why I Am So Passionate About Helping Animals & Spreading The Word
Eye rolls, laughs, arguments, and comments; I’ve experienced them all as an animal advocate.
Are animal lovers rare? How would you define an animal lover? Can you be an animal lover and not get involved with animal welfare issues?
My opinion is animal lovers are not necessarily rare. Most people love them and have a pet in their family; a dog, cat, bird, or hamster maybe. I think most people are just simply unaware of the cruelty going on out there.
But there is another side, there are those who wouldn’t harm animals, but see them as “just animals.” “Just animals!” Because they are not the same as us, does not mean they have any less right to be here and to be treated with respect. Animals feel pain if you hit them, they bleed if they are hurt, they need food & water to survive, they get happy, sad, scared, stressed, & sick. I’m not seeing a lot of basic need differences. The New Year is almost here and I thought it appropriate to review some great animal stories. They are not necessarily just from 2016.
What I love about these stories is that not only are they about animals saving human lives, but that there is such a variety of animals. There are cats, dogs, a horse, pig, goat, whale, bird, and elephant. I was tearing up reading these stories because, to me, this shows that ALL animals are sweet, precious, loving, feeling beings.
I also was tearing up because I was thinking about how there are actually people out there who hurt these precious beings. I recently saw a post on Facebook about how some teenage boys “rented” a goat from a lady and how they abused him, smashing beer cans on his head. Continue reading →
