Animals In The Weather

In November of 2016 I wrote a post about someone who was concerned about the dog next door being left outside and was asking my advice. I want to share that post again because it is a topic that deserves thought & discussion.

Where I am it has been brutally cold. We have had below zero temperatures lasting more than a week in a row. I think about any poor animals that might be out in this weather without shelter. Whether it be because of a bad pet parent (hate the word “owner”), they are lost, or that they are a stray, having to endure these temperatures must be brutal. I’m sure it even causes some animals to lose their life. 😦

Did You Know?

Animal abuse, a very sad topic, but one that needs to be given attention.

Did you know animal abuse isn’t just someone hitting or hurting their own pet?

Did you know animals are being abused daily and we are allowing it?

On the packaging of items that are organic, such as cheese, it says “Pasture Raised Cows.” There are WAY less organic products available than non-organic products. So what is happening to the other cows?

Dog Fighting…How Cruel Humans Can Be

Dog fighting. So incredibly cruel and certainly shows us one of the worst sides of human beings. Here is a definition I found online: Dog fighting is a type of blood sport generally defined as two game dogs against one another in a ring or a pit for the entertainment of the spectators or the gratification of the dogfighters, who are sometimes referred to as dogmen.

Pitbulls (and other dogs) are taken and beaten into becoming angry aggressive dogs. Then they are thrown into a ring with another dog to fight it out. They most certainly are terrified, confused, and in pain. Humans call this entertainment. Animals who are in misery tearing each other apart and this is entertainment. Not only entertainment, but humans make money off of the bets on which dog will “win.” (None of the dogs “win.” This is a lose, lose situation for them) Continue reading →

This Tuesday’s Tale: Jack

Today we take a look back at Jack. Jack is a little dog that was found in a dumpster by a little boy. Sadly, this happens more than you think. Honestly, how can people be so cruel?

It’s Just An Animal

How many of you have come across someone who has said to you, “it’s just an animal!”? Well, I don’t know about you, but I can’t even express how frustrating this is to me.

A young blogger contacted me about a debate she is having with someone over the use of animals in entertainment. It sounds like their discussion has gotten heated and the last thing I know is that he said the following comment about elephants, “Their tusks are useful and men want to use them. This month teachers are celebrated and shown appreciation for what they do for children. Some of you know that I work around children and today Chipotle Restaurant was offering “Buy One, Get One.” A deal only for teachers. I came home with a veggie burrito and a veggie salad. Mmm, mmm, good! Dinner taken care of. 🙂

What Wouldn’t Jesus Do?

My blog isn’t just about animals, its about how people perceive animals. Humans are to be stewards of the animals on earth and instead are powering over them. Jesus didn’t even do that to us. Although he does have all of the power, he powered under people, serving them. He is loving and peaceful.

What about your boss? They have the power at a job, but does that mean they can or should abuse you? Are they not there to teach, help, encourage, and to keep order?

Last year I took a course through RedRover called “RedRover Readers.” Here is a paragraph explaining a bit about the program.

The RedRover Readers program promotes empathy by presenting powerful stories, encouraging children to put themselves in the place of animals, and asking questions that promote critical thinking. A 2009 pilot study of the program (then known as the Humane Education Ambassador Readers) conducted by Inverness Research, Inc. suggests that the program:
~Builds self-esteem and motivates students to take an important subject seriously
~Stimulates additional student-directed learning
~Builds students’ knowledge and potentially affects their behaviors related to caring for pets
~Builds students’ empathy and compassion for pets
