Different Views, But Mine Can’t Be Wrong

Why I Am So Passionate About Helping Animals & Spreading The Word

Eye rolls, laughs, arguments, and comments; I’ve experienced them all as an animal advocate.

Are animal lovers rare? How would you define an animal lover? Can you be an animal lover and not get involved with animal welfare issues?

My opinion is animal lovers are not necessarily rare. Most people love them and have a pet in their family; a dog, cat, bird, or hamster maybe. I think most people are just simply unaware of the cruelty going on out there.

But there is another side, there are those who wouldn’t harm animals, but see them as “just animals.” “Just animals!” Because they are not the same as us, does not mean they have any less right to be here and to be treated with respect. Animals feel pain if you hit them, they bleed if they are hurt, they need food & water to survive, they get happy, sad, scared, stressed, & sick. I’m not seeing a lot of basic need differences. The tale of Greta told by Maria

greta-the-dog-maria

We lost our previous dogs, Stormy (a Minpin) and Blanca (a Chihuahua) kind of close together. Stormy was almost 17 and Blanca 15 1/2 years. I was sad when Stormy was gone but really grieved over Blanca. We said we’d take our time, but Blanca died in October of 2014 and on my birthday in March 2015, we brought Greta home from the SPCA. She is part Dachshund and part Chihuahua.

We’ve had two-year-old Greta since she was four months old. She and her brother were given up to our local SPCA. Her papers said her former people “could not keep/do not want.” Well, WE wanted her! I would have taken her brother too but we live in an apartment. Continue reading

Animals Saving People

22WORDS

The New Year is almost here and I thought it appropriate to review some great animal stories. They are not necessarily just from 2016.

What I love about these stories is that not only are they about animals saving human lives, but that there is such a variety of animals. There are cats, dogs, a horse, pig, goat, whale, bird, and elephant. I was tearing up reading these stories because, to me, this shows that ALL animals are sweet, precious, loving, feeling beings.

I also was tearing up because I was thinking about how there are actually people out there who hurt these precious beings. I recently saw a post on Facebook about how some teenage boys “rented” a goat from a lady and how they abused him, smashing beer cans on his head. Continue reading

The tale of Domino told by Suze

When George and I were first married we made a sort of pact..when we adopted a pet it would be one that no one else wanted….an older dog or cat…maybe one with an illness. No baby animals for us. After all, everyone else seemed to want a cute little puppy or kitten. Those little guys had a chance at a home……..the older ones didn’t.

We both loved animals….we both had grown up with the same values, education…..music.

This song sums up how we felt, and still feel.

We only ever made one exception to our “older pet” rule. George was working a Nursing Home and someone had thrown a huge bag out of their truck as they rushed past the home in the middle of a night. George was outside taking a break and saw a bag being thrown………after the truck was gone he heard a sort of whimper and went to investigate.
