AN OLD POEM, NEW THOUGHTS

Back in 2020 I wrote the poem I will be sharing in this post. Although it pertained to some different circumstances, it is still very fitting today. I could have edited it and put in new words to go with the current year but I didn’t think it really mattered. The message is still the same.

You may already know about this, but I recently learned about the death of a young woman who had her own animal rescue, with a focus on foxes. I never heard of her or her rescue until I learned of her death. But now, her story is popping up everywhere. Her death was by suicide and it is said it was due to online bullying that just became too much to bear (she also struggled with mental illness).

My main mission has always been to bring awareness to others feelings, obviously with the focus on animals as feeling beings too. All that takes is some kindness. Animal advocacy and rescue work of any kind is mentally and emotionally exhausting. Add bullying to that and well…here we are. That being said, I think there is nothing wrong with researching rescues and even visiting them to find out if they are an organization you want to support. And by all means if they are not actually helping animals but instead harming them or just in it to make a profit, then yes maybe even take some action to change that and help the animals. Sometimes that may entail exposing them online to make others aware. But I don’t see how bullying and being down right cruel is necessary.
*Note: I am not in any way saying Save A Fox was doing anything wrong. As I mentioned, I never even heard of them until I heard of Mikayla’s passing.

Here is the poem I mentioned I would share.

LET ALL OF THE HATRED BE DONE

There has been so much happening
It has all been so very maddening
I blame you, you blame me, we blame them
Rather than love, it’s been easier to condemn
Yes, this year has been a tough one
Everyone is surely glad to see it done
But when the mask comes off what will we see?
Will our mouths be cursing because we can’t agree?
We teach kids to not speak unless it’s something nice
Well maybe we should be taking our own advice
While nothing wrong with trying to make a change
It must be done without the hatred exchange
When we realize there is no them vs. us
When instead of fight we can be open to discuss
We might actually gain a new perspective
This is when true change will be effective
So when we say goodbye to 2020 and hello to 2021
Also let the hatred we’ve been harboring be done

In case you haven’t seen anything about Mikayla Raines I am sharing one of the many videos out there. Please check it out.

Fundraiser Coming Soon

It’s been a while so I wanted to say hello! I’m on a new journey so I haven’t been posting much on my blog. But I can’t wait to share the products I’ll soon have available for a fundraiser to help animals. Please say hello back! Since blogging can require regular posting to stay connected with others, it would be nice to see who is still out there. I hope you’re all doing well.

Coming Soon Update

Hello all! Earlier this summer, I posted that I was working on some of my graphics that will be available on some products/items. Now that we’re nearing the end of summer, I wanted to update you. Production will begin soon and I will be sharing a link with you that will show the available items. This will be a fundraiser for animals. When the fundraiser is ready to launch I will share all of the details with you. Please stay tuned!

I really have been enjoying tapping into a creative/artsy side I didn’t even know I had. Something else I have been trying out is drawing people’s pets. My latest is my nephew’s cat, Oliver.

“LET’S DISCUSS” SERIES #1: PART 2

Thank you to all who took the time to fill out the questionnaire on my first post in this series. I want to take a few minutes to explain a little more why I am doing this. I am not doing this for me. I am not doing this to get more likes or followers. I am not doing this to add more content to my blog. I am doing this for animals. How do I mean? Well here is an example. I made a comment on a social media post about the treatment of farm animals and that I do not believe God would approve. Someone respectfully (which is very appreciated) asked me in reply “what about the sacrifices of animals in the bible?” I was thrilled to have someone ask me this (again…respectfully asked). Dialogue is what I want. Dialogue is how we all learn from each other. THAT is why I am doing this series! 😊

So let’s get on to Part 2 of “Feelings & Emotions.”

Here is the link to the second questionnaire: Let’s Discuss Series: “Feelings & Emotions” Part 2. It will take less than a minute to fill out but will make a huge impact! Thank you in advance!

“LET’S DISCUSS” SERIES #1

Hello all. I am starting a series called “Let’s Discuss.” In each post I will have a link to a Google Doc where it will take you two minutes to fill out but will make a huge impact.

The first topic/questionnaire is “Feelings & Emotions.” Here is the link: https://forms.gle/FXMj6tikiPxsJbRE9. Thank you in advance! ❤️

HAPPINESS MONTH

I just found out that August is “Happiness” month and I love that! The truth is those of us who fight for animals can struggle with being “happy” when there is so much cruelty going on.

Anyone who works to help the less fortunate does incredibly hard work. But when the less fortunate are so unfortunate they aren’t even considered by many to be part of society, the toil can feel unbearable.

Taken from the Dodo in a Farm Sanctuary interview

But since August is about “HAPPY” I wanted to focus on that. I made the following video. I hope you enjoy! (Volume up)

Most of us who work in animal advocacy do because we care so much, but you must care for yourself to care for animals.

Some suggestions to keep a balanced life is to watch cartoons for a laugh, be with friends & family, and have some enjoyable hobbies.

I will be posting soon the start of a “Let’s Discuss” series. I also am still working on products for sale to raise money for animals in need. Please stay tuned and I hope you’ll participate because this blog isn’t about me, it’s about us all (animals, people, and our society). Thanks!

You Don’t Own Me

Hello all. I hope you have had a good week! As you know, I get ideas for a post on things that happen in my own life (conversations, events, things I read, things I experience, etc.) This past week someone was talking to me about their pet and they used that three letter word “own.” I hate that word when people are talking about their pets. They may be “our” pet but we do not own them. We adopted them and brought them into our family. Do we consider our children something we own because they are ours? When we marry do we now “own” each other?

We do not own anything that has breath. What we have done is made a commitment. A commitment to care for, be there for, and be faithful to whether it be a partner, a baby we adopted, or an animal we brought into our home.

This is a serious topic, for me very serious. I literally cringe when someone uses the word “own.” My mission and logo is to “Change how the world views animals.” But I thought I would throw a little fun into this post. Who has seen “The First Wives Club?” Whether you have or not you may know the iconic song “You Don’t Own Me.” I challenge you to listen to the words when you play the video and to think of animals instead of a man. When you do you’ll see how this can be somewhat fitting to animals as well.

Sunday Pawzing To Show Off Pets

It’s Sunday and it’s also “Pet Photo Day” or what I like to think of as simply “Show Off Your Pet Day.”

I have a video (instead of a photo) of Cino below where she is playing with her favorite toy mousey. I keep a basket of toys under a table in the living room. I only pull it out once and a while just to change it up. I pulled it out last weekend but didn’t get any toys out. A little while later there was Cino in the bin checking everything out and helping herself to the toys. After pawing, sniffing, and checking them all out the one she pulled out was her mousey. She loves her mousey! She was having such a good time tugging, biting, throwing, and pouncing on mousey that I quickly grabbed my phone and started recording. I didn’t start recording quick enough to get it all or the cutest part but I think us pet parents know how challenging that can be. At least you can see her and her favorite toy.

Later on she picked up mousey with her teeth and put it back in the bin. I mean, how adorable is that?! I’m disappointed I didn’t get that on video.

Let me know in a comment if you did a post on “Pet Photo Day” so I can check it out. I may even ask your permission to use the photo in one of my future posts.

I hope you enjoy your day. Happy Sunday!

For The Love Of Cats

Finally! I was finally able to finish the video I was working on two weeks ago when I ran into all kinds of software/computer trouble. It so happens that today is Cat World Domination Day! So it worked out ok because what a perfect day to share it. 🐱

I put the video together in honor of a cat that was beaten on live video. Continue reading
