Sunday Pause (Paws): That Sweet Face

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back and relax. I don’t know what the weather is like where you are but here it has been a weekend to stay in. We’re having rain/snow mix and it is making for some very icy road conditions. On weekends like this I truly can take some time to kick back and relax.

I hope all of you who celebrate enjoyed Christmas and the gatherings. At my family gathering I was asked how things were going with my blogging. My response was “good but I haven’t been writing very meaty posts lately.” I miss sitting down and pouring my heart into a post and I will get back to that. Sometimes life just takes you in other directions for a while.

My meaty posts usually come from an experience of some sort. Not too long ago when I was driving on a highway I passed a truck full of cows. My heart instantly became heavy and I had tears streaming down my face. I wondered if I was the only one on that highway who notices and feels sad for them. Or if everyone sees such a thing as “normal.” In this world it may be looked at as “normal” but the God I know didn’t have that planned for his creation. So in my awareness I have to ask myself do I sit back and just act “normal” and go along with the crowd or do I speak up and educate others? I choose the latter. So you see it is experiences that touch my heart & soul that bring about those meaty posts and I hope this last paragraph was somewhat that.

That experience of seeing the cows (and the adorable picture of Cino) made me think of a poem I wrote a while ago and thought it would fit very well in today’s post. I changed it a little bit and have recorded myself reading it. But boy did I have a lot of trouble making this video. I worked on it for a long, long time, late into the night. It seems to be a software problem. Hopefully I will figure it out eventually for future videos or just go with another route of recording. But for now this is the best I can do. It is a recording with my phone. The poem is also typed out on this post if you want to follow along or just read it.

Sunday Pause (Paws): For Farm Animals

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and take in the truth, even if it may be difficult.

I like to try to keep most of my Sunday posts more on the light side. But my blog is about being a voice for animals. So, I apologize, but today I am writing about a serious topic…the treatment of farm animals.

It came across my Facebook Newsfeed about the undercover investigation at Fair Oaks Farms and the abuse of calves there recorded on video. I couldn’t bring myself to watch the videos. I got the gist from all of the headlines and comments.

Abuse of farm animals is not uncommon. They get away with it because it happens behind closed doors. We see the “happy cow” commercials, but I don’t think there are a whole lot of actual happy cows on factory farms. Even the word “factory” gets me. Animals are not objects to live in a factory. God made them to live, play, graze, move, and BE with other animals. He didn’t create them for abuse and mistreatment by his other creation…us. This has to stop!

We Have A Choice

I recently created the image below to post on Facebook. Then in my “Facebook Memories” I was reminded of a poem I wrote last year. So I put the image and the poem together and walah…a blog post. 🙂

WHY I DO WHAT I DO

People often wonder
Why I do what I do
I say they wouldn’t be asking
If they knew what I knew

Seen as “one of those”
But do they know our case
Animals are living, feeling beings
Have you looked close into their face?

Sunday Pause (Paws): An Animal Is An Animal

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and take a moment to think about animals…really.

I recently read about a day created by The Anglican Society for Animals calledAnimal Welfare Sunday” which is today. It looks like they encourage churches to speak about animals and God’s intent for them.

I think this is great and I wish there were more discussions and sermons in the church about this.

“God gave us dominion over animals, but I truly believe the human race has misinterpreted this and that he, along with us, is grieving over the treatment of animals in our society.”
(A quote from my ABOUT page)

I have always loved animals. I grew up with an adorable black toy poodle and if friends or family had pets I could always be found wherever they were. But it wasn’t until I took the time to learn about how our society treats & uses other animals that I made some important lifestyle changes.

do you love animals or just pets?-aafbt

Sunday Pause (Paws): Eyes

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and look deep into my eyes. You’re getting sleepy, very, very sleepy. OK, so maybe not but I did write a poem about “eyes.” I hope you enjoy. 🙂

EYES

When you look into my eyes
What is it that you see?
Am I just “another”
Are you truly looking at me?

Sunday Pause (Paws): Butterfly Wings

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, grab a cup of coffee or tea, and take flight with a butterfly.

BUTTERFLY WINGS

Oh you beautiful butterfly
Those wings can take you oh so high
Oh to have those butterfly wings
Oh what joy they must bring

Oh butterfly with wings so great
Can you fly beyond the golden gate?
Please find my dear beloved sis
And give her a big butterfly kiss

Did You Know?

Animal abuse, a very sad topic, but one that needs to be given attention.

Did you know animal abuse isn’t just someone hitting or hurting their own pet?

Did you know animals are being abused daily and we are allowing it?

On the packaging of items that are organic, such as cheese, it says “Pasture Raised Cows.” There are WAY less organic products available than non-organic products. So what is happening to the other cows?

What Wouldn’t Jesus Do?

My blog isn’t just about animals, its about how people perceive animals. Humans are to be stewards of the animals on earth and instead are powering over them. Jesus didn’t even do that to us. Although he does have all of the power, he powered under people, serving them. He is loving and peaceful.

What about your boss? They have the power at a job, but does that mean they can or should abuse you? Are they not there to teach, help, encourage, and to keep order?

I’m King Of The World!

Man has dominion over the animals, so we can treat them however we want, right? (Of course, that would be a “no”)

Whether someone believes in God or not, how about compassion & empathy?

My recent post, Why I Am A Vegetarian looks at how farm animals are treated today. I truly believe if people actually took the time to find out what is happening to animals before they become “meat in the supermarket” they would reconsider what they are eating.

We have a “head in the sand” society when it comes to animals. What we see is the “laughing cow” and “happy cow” type commercials for companies selling their products. What we don’t see is the cruelty going on to the animals to create those products. Continue reading

Why I Am A Vegetarian

You probably think, well of course, she doesn’t eat meat, she’s a huge animal lover and advocate. I suppose it’s true that’s why I have never been a big meat fan, but I have actually eaten it most of my life. But for as long as I can remember, half way through every meal, I would  stop eating the meat portion of the meal. Meat itself is gross to me…the way it looks, blood, veins, and bones, oh yuk! Then when I think about the fact that it is an animal, I am done!

So, I’ve never really liked meat, but then I started learning about slaughterhouses and factory farms. OK, now I had another reason I could not eat an animal, at least not from those who do not care for them in a humane manner.

It is a personal decision whether someone eats meat or not. I do not judge anyone about this. I do, however, want to encourage you to be brave and watch the following video called “Eating Mercifully.” It is a real eye opener and it is SO important to know where your food is coming from, for health benefits and humane reasons.
