Last year I took a course through RedRover called “RedRover Readers.” Here is a paragraph explaining a bit about the program.

The RedRover Readers program promotes empathy by presenting powerful stories, encouraging children to put themselves in the place of animals, and asking questions that promote critical thinking. A 2009 pilot study of the program (then known as the Humane Education Ambassador Readers) conducted by Inverness Research, Inc. suggests that the program:
~Builds self-esteem and motivates students to take an important subject seriously
~Stimulates additional student-directed learning
~Builds students’ knowledge and potentially affects their behaviors related to caring for pets
~Builds students’ empathy and compassion for pets

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back and relax!

A great way to relax is to watch a movie! Have you seen the movie “A Street Cat Named Bob?” I actually haven’t, but now that I know about it, I will probably watch it sometime.

This Sunday’s post is a guest post from the blog idealizeblog. The YouTube videos and all of the words in the italicized section are part of the guest post.

There is a new hit reality tv show in Iceland called “Keeping Up With The Kattarshians.” This is a live-stream show following four kittens that were found abandoned in a factory. They are Guoni, Briet, Stubbur and Ronja. A local animal shelter nursed them back to health. Continue reading

Sunday Pause (Paws): Birthday Fun

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back & relax!

I thought I would pause for a thank you. Thank you for all the birthday wishes. It’s been fun celebrating with my favorite Olive Garden dish…Fettuccine Alfredo, some homemade carrot cake, and even a trip to the movie theater to see Beauty and the Beast.

Are Animal Advocates Judgmental?

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/30/ac/de/30acdeca847f4aeb91b863be9b935878.jpgPinterest

I’ve heard people say animal advocates are “judgmental.” So, I look at myself and I think…am I? Let me tell you a few stories.

Years ago I worked at an animal hospital. It was a weekend job caring for the animals that were boarded there. I was so excited! I was still trying to figure out where I wanted to put my passion for animals to use. I was so excited to learn and see if this might be the type of business I would want to be in. But I didn’t like the veterinarian and in the end, he said I was always asking questions and “suspicious.” Well…you be the judge. Continue reading

This Tuesday Tale: It’s My Birthday

Today is my birthday so I thought I would do a little bit different kind of tale, a tale about me. This will be my first “Tuesday Tale” about a human. But hey, as I always say, we humans and animals are all living, feeling beings…so why not?!

At church this past Sunday, the sermon was about fear. In this sermon and the one before the topic of being frozen in life was spoken about. When you’re fearful, you become frozen. They go hand in hand.

What does this have to do with me? Well, here I am another year older and I have been thinking a lot about my life, especially the last few years. Continue reading

Service Dogs, Do We SEE Them?

I‘m a “people watcher”, but I’m also an “animal watcher.” I always notice when someone has a service dog. I tend to watch them to try to pick up ques to see if they seem happy. I wonder if anyone else notices them. If anyone else worries about their well-being as much as the person’s well-being.

This topic came to me when I was at the grocery store tonight. I passed a woman with a service dog. I watched him. It’s probably because they are working, but they always look sad to me. Continue reading
