Are Animal Advocates Judgmental?

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/30/ac/de/30acdeca847f4aeb91b863be9b935878.jpgPinterest

I’ve heard people say animal advocates are “judgmental.” So, I look at myself and I think…am I? Let me tell you a few stories.

Years ago I worked at an animal hospital. It was a weekend job caring for the animals that were boarded there. I was so excited! I was still trying to figure out where I wanted to put my passion for animals to use. I was so excited to learn and see if this might be the type of business I would want to be in. But I didn’t like the veterinarian and in the end, he said I was always asking questions and “suspicious.” Well…you be the judge. Continue reading

Service Dogs, Do We SEE Them?

I‘m a “people watcher”, but I’m also an “animal watcher.” I always notice when someone has a service dog. I tend to watch them to try to pick up ques to see if they seem happy. I wonder if anyone else notices them. If anyone else worries about their well-being as much as the person’s well-being.

This topic came to me when I was at the grocery store tonight. I passed a woman with a service dog. I watched him. It’s probably because they are working, but they always look sad to me. Continue reading

Humans vs. Animals

Humans and animals, we share this earth together.

But as an animal advocate you’re judged. You’re judged because people think you care more about them than you do humans. Or that their worth is insignificant. Or that they don’t feel pain. To some people they are “just” animals. But to God they are HIS creatures, just as we are, and he never intended for the abuse that is afflicted upon them every day by humans.

As far as the caring more about animals than humans, it’s not about that. It’s about the fact that animals are being abused and are suffering and somebody has to help them.

I heard a story about two young guys who cut off a dog’s ears and then took a selfie. Continue reading

An Interview With Me

I recently was part of an interview with another blogger. I participated in this because it is so important to me to get my message out there. What is my message?…

To respectfully bring attention to the treatment of animals in our society, how this was not in God’s plan for HIS creatures, that animals are living, feeling beings, and that we need to speak up and help them.

You can check out the interview here. You may get to know me a little better. There are also links to some of my previous posts in the interview that you may have not had the chance to read. Continue reading

Different Views, But Mine Can’t Be Wrong

Why I Am So Passionate About Helping Animals & Spreading The Word

Eye rolls, laughs, arguments, and comments; I’ve experienced them all as an animal advocate.

Are animal lovers rare? How would you define an animal lover? Can you be an animal lover and not get involved with animal welfare issues?

My opinion is animal lovers are not necessarily rare. Most people love them and have a pet in their family; a dog, cat, bird, or hamster maybe. I think most people are just simply unaware of the cruelty going on out there.

But there is another side, there are those who wouldn’t harm animals, but see them as “just animals.” “Just animals!” Because they are not the same as us, does not mean they have any less right to be here and to be treated with respect. Animals feel pain if you hit them, they bleed if they are hurt, they need food & water to survive, they get happy, sad, scared, stressed, & sick. I’m not seeing a lot of basic need differences. Hoping to Make an Impact

I have been blogging (well…serious blogging) for a few months now. I have played around with my blog, changing & adding things like the “Tuesday Tales” where I share animal stories and “Sunday Pause (Paws)” where I encourage everyone to kick back & relax. On my “Vegetarian Challenge” page I try to add recipes every now & then. There hasn’t been an actual challenge yet, but maybe in the future. Also, I have been adding my favorite cruelty free products to the “Links” page, adding some pictures of my cat, Cino and “Pet Care Tips.”

I will continue to add to these pages and keep a variety on my blog. But one thing that will not change is where my heart is, and that is helping the fight against animal cruelty.

This means some of my posts will not be so uplifting or fun. If I were to only do “happy” posts I wouldn’t be spreading the word about animal cruelty and therefore I wouldn’t be helping animals.

FBI Will Begin Tracking Cases of Animal Abuse

Of course, as an animal lover and a voice for them, the first thing I thought with the prompt “bus” was “abuse.” Although, it is not a fun subject and I realize a lot of people want to keep their head in the sand about it, because it is hard to deal with, it is still reality. So, the first thing I want to say about the following article I have linked in my post is…Hallelujah! It’s about time!

I saw this article in my Newsfeed on Facebook. I recently wrote a post about this very dog they are showing, so it caught my attention. Although revisiting the article on this poor precious dog made me sad, I felt such excitement of the hope and step forward for animals!

There has been studies done on the link between animal violence and human violence for a while now. I wrote an article about this that I submitted to “The Editor” of my local newspaper and it was published. Some of the article is in the post I am speaking of which you can read here.

The future of animals being treated, as they deserve, falls on children. I have a (not as heavy) post you can read here discussing this and it also has some adorable photos of children and animals!

Steps forward for animals like this one where the FBI will be tracking animal abuse cases, (even if the goal is for the benefit of humans, the animals will benefit too-yay!) gives me encouragement to keep on keeping on helping and fighting for God’s precious animals!

Why Do People Abuse Animals?

It started last night when I was going through the Newsfeed on Facebook and I saw a post headline and picture about a dog that was abused so badly they said he screamed like a human being when they were approaching him to rescue him. The police officer involved in rescuing him was so moved by this that he has made it his mission to go after the abusers. That is as far as I got. I couldn’t open the post and read it. I was already breaking down. It was the first thing I thought of when I woke up this morning and again I was breaking down.

Most of my posts on Facebook are shared from my blog entries and I know not all of my family & friends are stopping and reading them as they scroll through their Newsfeed. Some people cannot handle seeing or hearing about animal suffering. I am not judging, I get it. I can barely hold it together.

I‘ve seen other images & headlines of elephants on chains, a guy throwing a brick at a dog, a tore up dog from a dogfight. It just goes on and on. Then I start feeling like it is all so overwhelming and I start wondering how I can be making any difference? There are so many animals suffering and I want it all to stop. I wonder if one day this will completely break my spirit.

What Would Happen To Your Pet If Something Happened To You?

Are you prepared?

Scott copy
Sampson

Our pets are our family, but if something ever happened to you, what would happen to your pet? This is something so easily overlooked, but being unprepared could be detrimental to your pet.

I saw a post on Facebook that led to this article: Bonded German Shepherd Pair Surrendered to Shelter After Owner Dies Placed On Death Row.
