I can’t even bring myself to read the full story about the dogs & roosters rescued from a place in Wisconsin. I read the dogs had wounds & scars and the roosters were surgically altered for fighting. That was all I could handle and I can barely handle that.
It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and look deep into my eyes. You’re getting sleepy, very, very sleepy. OK, so maybe not but I did write a poem about “eyes.” I hope you enjoy. 🙂
EYES
When you look into my eyes
What is it that you see?
Am I just “another”
Are you truly looking at me?

The gateway to the soul
It seems eyes can reveal
A bit about each of us
And how we may feel Continue reading
It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and for today take a look at how great cats are!

I love all animals, but this past week cats seemed to take the spotlight.
I‘ve been reading the book “The World According to Bob”, the second book by James Bowen about him and his cat Bob. I lost track of the book for a while and had been searching for it looking in and under everything. I even looked in the fridge & freezer in case I put it there absentmindedly. Well I found it…right on my night table shelf by my bed. It had been there the whole time, but that’s another story. 🙂 Continue reading
My heart literally breaks for animals and how they are treated in our society by so many. And my new favorite word for anyone that I hear or read about that hurts an animal is jack***. You see, I’m not one who curses, but that seems to be a favorite word of mine lately.
Is it because I’m older and less patient? Is it because my sister passed away and I’m more sensitive? Or maybe it’s both. Whatever the reason I wrote the following short poem to express some of the emotions I have been feeling (swear words not included 🙂 ).

We are their voice…stay strong!
Today I was able to say for the first time to a parent that we are adding RedRover Readers to our curriculum. I’m so excited!
I have talked about this program in other posts, but for those who may not know, it is a program that teaches children empathy for animals. It is taught by reading specific books from the RedRover Readers program and asking children questions to promote critical thinking. They are not told “this is how the animal feels” but by looking at the animals posture, face, ears, eyes, tail, etc. they can then discuss how THEY think the animal feels. Other discussions may be about their personal experiences with animals, what is happening in the book, and even how the person feels.
There is a training for teaching this program that is through redrover.org. I took the training and when we won the RedRover drawing in March this year I was able to get many of the books to get this program going.
Here I am talking with some of our teaching staff about the books & curriculum to give them a better understanding of it. Continue reading
It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and today I would like to take a pause and look at the phrase “just.”
A coworker was telling me a story at work the other day and at one point she said how she talks to her dog to let her know she is leaving. Then came the words “I know it’s stupid, it’s just a dog.” I don’t know about you but I am so tired of hearing people refer to animals as “just” anything. So I came up with a list of what I think they are just…

Just a joy to watch
Here is what a Facebook follower friend of mine in her own words shared with me about her beloved cat Jasmine pictured above.
Jasmine chilling on the bed with me. I wonder if other people take pleasure in watching their pets enjoy themselves? From jumping on the bed and just enjoying each other’s company to watching her sniff the air whilst sat in the garden or getting her toys out the bowl I store them in and playing with them. I’m sure they do, but it often an unspoken pleasure of pet ownership when in comes to cats. But I enjoy watching my cat just enjoy herself around the house from sunbathing to cackling at birds out the window or sniffing the breeze.
If you live in the United States it’s about to get real loud!
They may be pretty and we may have been doing them for hundreds of years, but it is now that we are truly paying attention to what affects fireworks have on our animal friends.
A DIFFERENT VIEW
God created all the animals
THEN he created man
Trusting us with dominion over them
That was his beautiful plan
Dominion means power & control
Authority, command & sway
Is your view of that bad?
Because that is not God’s way
Someone I know shared a very sad thing with me that happened to her son. I couldn’t believe it!
Her son, Elliott, who is in college was sharing a house with another guy. They got a dog together and Elliott became particularly fond of this dog. He became very close to him and as most people who care about their pets do, Elliott soon saw this dog as family. He played with him, bragged about him, and took pictures of him all the time.
Fast forward to eight years later, when one morning Elliott couldn’t find his dog anywhere. He was looking all over the house & yard. All he found was his collar on the kitchen table. He asked his roommate numerous times where the dog was but the roommate wouldn’t say anything. Becoming more alarmed, Elliott became frantic and started raising his voice and demanding to know what happened to him. His roommate finally admitted he had taken the dog to the vet in the middle of the night to be euthanized.
This was a healthy, happy, eight year old dog. His life was just ended and why? Because the neighbors complained he killed some of their chickens.
