“LET’S DISCUSS” SERIES #1: PART 2

Thank you to all who took the time to fill out the questionnaire on my first post in this series. I want to take a few minutes to explain a little more why I am doing this. I am not doing this for me. I am not doing this to get more likes or followers. I am not doing this to add more content to my blog. I am doing this for animals. How do I mean? Well here is an example. I made a comment on a social media post about the treatment of farm animals and that I do not believe God would approve. Someone respectfully (which is very appreciated) asked me in reply “what about the sacrifices of animals in the bible?” I was thrilled to have someone ask me this (again…respectfully asked). Dialogue is what I want. Dialogue is how we all learn from each other. THAT is why I am doing this series! 😊

So let’s get on to Part 2 of “Feelings & Emotions.”

Here is the link to the second questionnaire: Let’s Discuss Series: “Feelings & Emotions” Part 2. It will take less than a minute to fill out but will make a huge impact! Thank you in advance!

What Did I Do?

WHAT DID I DO?

I had a mom and siblings
but a human took me away,
I want to make you happy
I’m really trying to obey

I had to go potty
but didn’t know where,
then your voice got so loud
it gave me such a scare

I tried to understand
your human word “sit.”
What did I do
to deserve to be hit?

I want to play with that dog
I don’t want to fight.
What did I do
to deserve that bite?

What did I do
to deserve that kick?
When all I wanted to do
was give you a lick

I was lost and trying
to find my way.
I thought you would help
instead here I now lay

I’m seeing others like me
at the golden gate.
They gave me a big welcome
and said now you’re free from the hate.

I came to write this poem as a way for me to get out some of the frustration I am having lately. There are way too many abuse cases out there to these innocent beings. I kept the poem on the lighter side to convey some of the pain animals are in because of US humans. But the truth is it is so much worse than this poem. I am going to spare you the awful things I have heard about lately that people are doing or have done to animals. But I really want you to not have your head in the sand and be well aware that these things go on and they will not change without us. If you don’t know what to do I can give you one thing. Teach any child in your life to be kind to all animals. It starts there. They are our and the animal’s future.

I Will Never See it as “Normal”

As I’ve mentioned before, I now only write posts when I actually have something to say. In the past I was forcing the posts just to be sure to have something out there on a regular basis because that’s what I thought I had to do. But when I was doing that blogging was no longer fun, it was work. Something I’ve been thinking a lot about and wrestling with for so long is what society sees as “normal” treatment of animals. This is also a part of why I stopped writing posts. Sometimes there are so many thoughts swirling around, so many questions, so much hurt that it becomes hard to put it in words. But I am once again attempting to put them in words.

I understand going along with what seems “normal” I also have done this. It is only when I took the time to read, research, look in an animals’ eyes, and empathize (put myself in their shoes) that I was able to allow myself to see the truth.

I made the following graphic with these thoughts I’ve been having in mind.

Neglecting The Signs

Hello all. I did not write a Sunday Pawzing post today. Sundays are the day I set aside for writing posts and I try to keep them on the “lighter” side. But since I am not currently writing posts during the week, and this is what is on my mind, I wrote about domestic abuse and animal abuse and how they are intertwined. Therefore, I am not calling it “Sunday Pawzing.”

This is on my mind because someone I know, who we suspect is in an abusive relationship, just had a huge fight with this guy she is living with. Unfortunately her mom was going out of town for the week and bringing her dog to stay with them. This, of course, has me very concerned for her and the dog’s safety.

There is ample research that shows the link between animal violence and human violence. The signs are there in children but people often ignore them. This is a very dangerous thing to do. Continue reading

PACT Act…What Took So Long?

Today the bill was signed and The PACT Act makes animal cruelty a felony in the U.S.

I am overjoyed but I also have to ask….what took so long?

Sunday Pause (Paws): Just Ask

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and ask for help.

We all need to ask for help sometimes, but it isn’t an easy thing to do. I am going through a very trying time with purchasing a townhome. Through the process there have been ups & downs, highs & lows, and feeling like I’m going crazy. It’s still not over (help).

Even though I fall to my knees in tears at times and beg God to help when it doesn’t feel like he is, I really know he is. Maybe it’s me not listening to him.

This is the same for helping animals. Sometimes it feels like we’re getting nowhere, but we are. Sometimes we feel like God isn’t helping us with this, but he is.

I pray all the time for no more abuse
But then comes another horrible case
It brings me to tears and I feel helpless
So I ask for help in my quiet place

Sunday Pause (Paws): For Farm Animals

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and take in the truth, even if it may be difficult.

I like to try to keep most of my Sunday posts more on the light side. But my blog is about being a voice for animals. So, I apologize, but today I am writing about a serious topic…the treatment of farm animals.

It came across my Facebook Newsfeed about the undercover investigation at Fair Oaks Farms and the abuse of calves there recorded on video. I couldn’t bring myself to watch the videos. I got the gist from all of the headlines and comments.

Abuse of farm animals is not uncommon. They get away with it because it happens behind closed doors. We see the “happy cow” commercials, but I don’t think there are a whole lot of actual happy cows on factory farms. Even the word “factory” gets me. Animals are not objects to live in a factory. God made them to live, play, graze, move, and BE with other animals. He didn’t create them for abuse and mistreatment by his other creation…us. This has to stop!

Sunday Pause (Paws): Hello “Be Kind To Animals” Week

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and welcome the first day of “Be Kind To Animals Week”.

I wanted to honor this recognition of animals with this Sunday’s post. But we at AAFBT think you should always be kind to animals. In fact we now have a mission statement and here is Cino as “Animal Paladin” to introduce it to you…

I like to say to help animals it takes me, it takes you, it takes WE and that is so true. Here is a great example. A coworker of mine was dropping her son off at school and there on the edge of the sidewalk was a little duck in her words “crying.” He was laying on his side crying and shivering Continue reading

Sunday Pause (Paws): Cino’s Prayer

It’s Sunday! Time to kick back, relax, and how about saying a prayer.

I made a new cartoon image of Cino. Since our goal with this blog is to advocate for animals I thought I would introduce the image with Cino in prayer.

That’s exactly what I want…no more abuse! Unfortunately, that may not happen in this Continue reading
