The tale of Rooster Cogburn

Oh that adorable face! Maybe it was partly because of that adorable face that I wept as I read the story of Rooster. Continue reading

It’s Just An Animal

How many of you have come across someone who has said to you, “it’s just an animal!”? Well, I don’t know about you, but I can’t even express how frustrating this is to me.

A young blogger contacted me about a debate she is having with someone over the use of animals in entertainment. It sounds like their discussion has gotten heated and the last thing I know is that he said the following comment about elephants, “Their tusks are useful and men want to use them. They are just animals.” This was very upsetting for the blogger. Continue reading

Are Animal Advocates Judgmental?

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/30/ac/de/30acdeca847f4aeb91b863be9b935878.jpgPinterest

I’ve heard people say animal advocates are “judgmental.” So, I look at myself and I think…am I? Let me tell you a few stories.

Years ago I worked at an animal hospital. It was a weekend job caring for the animals that were boarded there. I was so excited! I was still trying to figure out where I wanted to put my passion for animals to use. I was so excited to learn and see if this might be the type of business I would want to be in. But I didn’t like the veterinarian and in the end, he said I was always asking questions and “suspicious.” Well…you be the judge. Continue reading

This Tuesday’s Tale: Lucky Waffle, Lucky Lisa

The tale of Waffle (& Lisa)

The Huffington Post

I found this story and it brought tears to my eyes. Here is a paragraph from it.

“The shelter said police had rescued this rat terrier from an abusive situation in Virginia. Most of his teeth were missing; he had a benign tumor, cataracts, and what was described as “an incompetent heart.” There were also scars on his cheek and jaw, and he couldn’t stop shaking. As my daughter put it, “That dog is a scaredy-cat.” We kept walking. I kept circling back. I mean, Harrison Ford has a scar on his face, and who doesn’t love Harrison Ford?”

I’m King Of The World!

Man has dominion over the animals, so we can treat them however we want, right? (Of course, that would be a “no”)

Whether someone believes in God or not, how about compassion & empathy?

My recent post, Why I Am A Vegetarian looks at how farm animals are treated today. I truly believe if people actually took the time to find out what is happening to animals before they become “meat in the supermarket” they would reconsider what they are eating.

We have a “head in the sand” society when it comes to animals. What we see is the “laughing cow” and “happy cow” type commercials for companies selling their products. What we don’t see is the cruelty going on to the animals to create those products. Continue reading

U.S. Animal Protection Laws…We Need More Green

Here is where the United States is in the matter of “Animal Protection Laws.” As you can see from the map below, we need more green! This map is showing the United States, but there is work to be done for animals everywhere. Do you know what your current laws are?

Hoping to Make an Impact

I have been blogging (well…serious blogging) for a few months now. I have played around with my blog, changing & adding things like the “Tuesday Tales” where I share animal stories and “Sunday Pause (Paws)” where I encourage everyone to kick back & relax. On my “Vegetarian Challenge” page I try to add recipes every now & then. There hasn’t been an actual challenge yet, but maybe in the future. Also, I have been adding my favorite cruelty free products to the “Links” page, adding some pictures of my cat, Cino and “Pet Care Tips.”

I will continue to add to these pages and keep a variety on my blog. But one thing that will not change is where my heart is, and that is helping the fight against animal cruelty.

This means some of my posts will not be so uplifting or fun. If I were to only do “happy” posts I wouldn’t be spreading the word about animal cruelty and therefore I wouldn’t be helping animals.

FBI Will Begin Tracking Cases of Animal Abuse

Of course, as an animal lover and a voice for them, the first thing I thought with the prompt “bus” was “abuse.” Although, it is not a fun subject and I realize a lot of people want to keep their head in the sand about it, because it is hard to deal with, it is still reality. So, the first thing I want to say about the following article I have linked in my post is…Hallelujah! It’s about time!

I saw this article in my Newsfeed on Facebook. I recently wrote a post about this very dog they are showing, so it caught my attention. Although revisiting the article on this poor precious dog made me sad, I felt such excitement of the hope and step forward for animals!

There has been studies done on the link between animal violence and human violence for a while now. I wrote an article about this that I submitted to “The Editor” of my local newspaper and it was published. Some of the article is in the post I am speaking of which you can read here.

The future of animals being treated, as they deserve, falls on children. I have a (not as heavy) post you can read here discussing this and it also has some adorable photos of children and animals!

Steps forward for animals like this one where the FBI will be tracking animal abuse cases, (even if the goal is for the benefit of humans, the animals will benefit too-yay!) gives me encouragement to keep on keeping on helping and fighting for God’s precious animals!

Elephants in Entertainment

Doesn’t this elephant look really happy?

elephant-happy-waterfallimagehosting.io

Elephants are beautiful creatures. They are extremely social, intelligent, have a long memory span, and have the largest brain in the animal kingdom.

Elephant are used in circuses, county fairs, roadside amusements, and Renaissance Festivals. I want to focus on the Renaissance Festival in this post, but for information on animals being used in circuses, click here.
