Harming Animals Leads To Harming People

mya-face-words-aafbt

“But perhaps when we look at the connection between animal cruelty and human violence, we would focus more attention on those who abuse animals to prevent them from escalating to crimes against people.”

“This is a serious problem. It is also one that will only get worse if left unchecked.”

Taken from “Animal Cruelty and Human Violence” http://www.huffingtonpost.com

The tragedies are too much around our world lately, especially in the Unites States. When you think about what the answer is, does empathy towards animals come to mind? Probably not, but I encourage you to rethink that. Here is my latest poem… Continue reading

Legally Blonde 2

Have you ever seen the movie Legally Blonde or Legally Blonde 2? Reese Witherspoon plays Elle Woods a fashionable sorority queen. In Legally Blonde she winds up going to law school and becoming a lawyer and in Legally Blonde 2 she finds herself fighting against animal experimentation.

I am not sure how well the two movies did in theaters and some may even say they are corny chick flicks which they may very well be. But I find myself being drawn to these types of movies. I think I still have the envy little girls have for “princesses” still in me.

Regardless of how well they did in the box office, I found positive messages in each of these movies. Legally Blonde shows how you really should never judge a book by its cover. Everyone thought Elle was way too pink & ditsy to ever go to law school and actual become a lawyer. But she did!

In Legally Blonde 2, she was laughed at for bringing up her concern for animals suffering in experiments for cosmetics. But she didn’t let that stop her. Please enjoy the following clip from the movie (6:50 minutes). (Ignore the silly “my dog is gay thing”)

It’s Just An Animal

How many of you have come across someone who has said to you, “it’s just an animal!”? Well, I don’t know about you, but I can’t even express how frustrating this is to me.

A young blogger contacted me about a debate she is having with someone over the use of animals in entertainment. It sounds like their discussion has gotten heated and the last thing I know is that he said the following comment about elephants, “Their tusks are useful and men want to use them. They are just animals.” This was very upsetting for the blogger. Continue reading

Service Dogs, Do We SEE Them?

I‘m a “people watcher”, but I’m also an “animal watcher.” I always notice when someone has a service dog. I tend to watch them to try to pick up ques to see if they seem happy. I wonder if anyone else notices them. If anyone else worries about their well-being as much as the person’s well-being.

This topic came to me when I was at the grocery store tonight. I passed a woman with a service dog. I watched him. It’s probably because they are working, but they always look sad to me. Continue reading

An Interview With Me

I recently was part of an interview with another blogger. I participated in this because it is so important to me to get my message out there. What is my message?…

To respectfully bring attention to the treatment of animals in our society, how this was not in God’s plan for HIS creatures, that animals are living, feeling beings, and that we need to speak up and help them.

You can check out the interview here. You may get to know me a little better. There are also links to some of my previous posts in the interview that you may have not had the chance to read. Continue reading

Different Views, But Mine Can’t Be Wrong

Why I Am So Passionate About Helping Animals & Spreading The Word

Eye rolls, laughs, arguments, and comments; I’ve experienced them all as an animal advocate.

Are animal lovers rare? How would you define an animal lover? Can you be an animal lover and not get involved with animal welfare issues?

My opinion is animal lovers are not necessarily rare. Most people love them and have a pet in their family; a dog, cat, bird, or hamster maybe. I think most people are just simply unaware of the cruelty going on out there.

But there is another side, there are those who wouldn’t harm animals, but see them as “just animals.” “Just animals!” Because they are not the same as us, does not mean they have any less right to be here and to be treated with respect. Animals feel pain if you hit them, they bleed if they are hurt, they need food & water to survive, they get happy, sad, scared, stressed, & sick. I’m not seeing a lot of basic need differences. Hoping to Make an Impact

I have been blogging (well…serious blogging) for a few months now. I have played around with my blog, changing & adding things like the “Tuesday Tales” where I share animal stories and “Sunday Pause (Paws)” where I encourage everyone to kick back & relax. On my “Vegetarian Challenge” page I try to add recipes every now & then. There hasn’t been an actual challenge yet, but maybe in the future. Also, I have been adding my favorite cruelty free products to the “Links” page, adding some pictures of my cat, Cino and “Pet Care Tips.”

I will continue to add to these pages and keep a variety on my blog. But one thing that will not change is where my heart is, and that is helping the fight against animal cruelty.

This means some of my posts will not be so uplifting or fun. If I were to only do “happy” posts I wouldn’t be spreading the word about animal cruelty and therefore I wouldn’t be helping animals.

The Test of Patience and Perseverance

via Daily Prompt: Test

The word “test” can be thought of in so many contexts. Here are my thoughts on test as I feel they relate to my current journey.

I started this blog as one of my assignments when I was back in school for Web Design. So this was one of my tests in learning to customize a template.

I didn’t post on a regular basis until just this past August. I have been testing different content on my blog to see what people are most interested in. I feel my patience has been tested in the time and dedication it takes in learning how to connect with other bloggers and in getting a new blog introduced out there in blogging world. (You mean I can’t have immediate over night success!)

Should A Pit Bull Have Any Less Rights Than Any Other Animal?

I just recently saw in the Facebook Newsfeed a post about pit bulls being outlawed in Montreal. Not only outlawed, but euthanized, simply because they are pit bulls. Here is the video I saw.

This is not OK. Animals are what we make them into.

There is a petition you can sign to help! Here is the link to it:
Help Save an Animal’s Life

I signed it and here is what I wrote:

I respectfully ask that you consider that pit bulls are what people make them into. They are living creatures created by God. They do not ask to be beaten, used for bait, or thrown into a dog fight. If you were, wouldn’t you be a bit aggressive too? Go after the humans doing this to these animals and please HELP these animals at our mercy.

I feel it is important to be kind & respectful when fighting for animals! Yelling, swearing, or being violent does not get people to listen, therefore you are not helping at all. So, if you do sign the petition (and I hope you do), please be respectful.
